Ian Owens was born in Jackson, Mississippi in June of 1980. Ian was raised on Southern Gospel music and around many talented singers; including Bidwell A. Owens Sr. his grandfather (a wonderful bass singer) and father, Butch Owens, current bass singer for The Stamps quartet. Ian had a love for music early on in his life. This love soon grew to include the study of piano, guitar, bass guitar and several brass instruments.
Ian proceeded to Hinds Jr. College on a full music scholarship. He embarked on his gospel music career by playing bass guitar with a local group in Mississippi. At age18, he began singing bass with two different local groups. At the tender age of 21, Ian joined the Cumberland Quartet after his voice drew the attention of the owner. He sang with the Cumberland Quartet for two years. After nine months with the Cumberland Quartet, Ian was nominated for the Horizon Award during the 2002 National Quartet Convention.
As only the second bass singer in The Imperials’ 40-year history, Ian is honored to follow in the footsteps of original member, Armond Morales. Crowds around the country are amazed by Ian’s ability to provide the strong vocal foundation that has been a hallmark of The Imperials’ harmonies throughout their award-winning history.
While working at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, Ian fell in love with and married Megan Grant of Auburn, Indiana. They now reside in Columbia, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. Ian says, “I am so incredibly blessed to have my wife Megan as my partner in this life. She completes me so perfectly and gives me unwavering and loving support.”
“I have always felt a call on my life to spread the good news of Jesus”, says Ian. “I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to partner with Shannon, Jason, and Jeremie. We are working diligently to serve God and his church in a way that will have a powerful impact on people. I have never worked with more genuine and devoted men of integrity. We especially endeavor to always handle the responsibility of The Imperials’ ministry with the care and respect that it deserves.”
